Maggie Muggins, or, Spring in Earlʼs Court. London: Joseph, © A great London novel, and Maggie is a goddam joy. A real tour de force from Waterhouse, full of wit and compassion and rage, he takes us through the pubs and bedsits of the true scabby old London, and he writes about the dregs, the losers, those people who slip through the 4/5.

Maggie Muggins (or Spring in Earl's Court) Kieth Waterhouse was one of our very best. This is a very funny but ferociously sad book for anyone who has done the 'going to live in London on their own' bit and the kind of people you run into on the shared flat and bedsit circuit, and their various scuzzy pubs and venues.

Like many concepts in the book world, "series" is a somewhat fluid and contested notion. A good rule of thumb is that series have a conventional name and are intentional creations, on the part of the author or publisher.
For now, avoid Missing: Earls Court. As a member of the intended audience for Maggie Muggins (I was 7 years old when the TV series debuted), I found it slow-paced, relatively quiet, straightforward. It felt more like a visit in which not much happened: being with the people was the point, not the events/10(10).

She was a teacher for nearly two decades, but in summer she took courses in Boston and New York and participated in amateur theatre.
